Getting to Rovaniemi, the easy way | SharpCat LLC Vacation Rentals

Rovaniemi, the capital of the Finland’s province of Lapland, sits on the Arctic Circle, but getting there is easier than it sounds. Most trips run through Helsinki, and from there you choose the quick way or the scenic way.

The quick way is a connecting flight. Helsinki to Rovaniemi Airport takes about an hour and a quarter, with several departures a day in season. The airport is fifteen minutes from town, and taxis meet every arrival.

The scenic way is the night train. The Santa Claus Express leaves Helsinki in the evening and rolls into Rovaniemi with the morning.

Once you arrive, you will not need a car for the classics. Santa Claus Village runs a bus link from town, tour operators pick up at the door for husky and aurora trips, and our three homes all sit close to the centre. The aurora season runs from late August into early April, so most of the year an evening walk away from the streetlights is all the equipment you need.
